Reg Meuross is an English singer/songwriter who lives in Somerset, England. Although he has been active for decades, Reg Meuross is a new discovery for Stockfisch: a folk singer of the English school, whose songs and melodies put the listener in a “warm contentment”. Love, death, politics, social issues – the typical content of the singer/songwriter tradition – are all dealt with in Reg Meuross’ songs. Whether fiction or stories from “real” life, Reg touches the listener, makes them think and, at best, even creates a need for action with his songs. This is particularly true of this new compilation of 12 songs from Reg’s long career, re-recorded here by Stockfisch. A good example of the synthesis of folk and social criticism is the song “England Green & England Grey”, in which Reg sings about the closure of factories, capitalist greed for profit and unjust facets of the health system – with an almost anthemic melody and a high, soft voice that sounds unique. Mike Davies (NetRhythms) describes Reg Meuross as “a warm, engaging live entertainer [whose] same easy going feel informs his discs and their songs of love, longing and true life stories”.
