Named after Mozart’s first publisher, having debuted with his delightful Oboe Quartet, five of Australia’s world class musicians unite to explore some of the extensive repertoire for oboe and strings. Founding member, Celia Craig, former Principal player with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London, & current Principal Oboe of Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, said the concept was inspired while playing the Bax Quintet at Royal Academy of Music. Artaria’s debut recording features Bax, Britten, Finzi & Vaughan Williams recorded in the highest possible resolution at the newly designed Jeffrey Kong Performing Arts Centre, home of Brighton Secondary School’s Government-sponsored Specialist Music Program.

Combining a wealth of musical experiences, Elizabeth, Anne, Caroline, Michael and Celia can list Australian String Quartet, The Nash Ensemble, Australia Ensemble, Australian Chamber Orchestra, St Martin’s in the Fields, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, London Chamber Players, several BBC groups, London Symphony Orchestra, Abbey Road Studios, Selby and Friends among their credits and close working connections with some of the giants of the recent music world.

Celia Craig says: “My purpose is to make oboe ‘cooler’ in this State (we have a drastic shortage of oboe students you see) & 1 of the missions of Artaria is to create videos, like pop videos, of playing & set with South Australian landscape. Our videos of the Bax Quintet (public domain work) are in production as we speak & will be available soon. I am interested in setting the music to iconic SA landscapes because settlers here have come from all over the world, yet the process of adjustment remains constant”.
