Known primarily for orchestral versions of contemporary pop songs, Ray Conniff’s recordings during the late 1960s and early 1970s by himself and as Ray Conniff and the Singers included many straightforward recordings of current pop hits. This Dutton Vocalion’s release combines two albums from the 70s: “Harmony” & “The Way We Were” albums. The hybrid SACD featuring both the stereo and quadraphonic mixes. Remastered from the original analogue tapes by Michael J. Dutton.
1973’s “Harmony” includes songs by Paul McCartney and Wings, Elton John, and Wayne Newton. If you are going to revisit the Ray Conniff catalog, vinyl LP or 8-track is highly recommended.
1974’s “The Way We Were”, sans singers, includes songs by Paul Simon, Elton John, Helen Reddy, and music from Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Serpico, and The Way We Were. This fun easy listening album has good track listing and includes a guest vocal appearance (on the title track) by Jackie Ward, of the Jackie Ward Singers, who performed with the Partridge Family.
