The absolute protagonist of this concert is the Duo Salvatore Accardo violin and Bruno Canino piano who masterfully interpret the Sonatas op. 78, op. 100, op. 108 and Scherzo in C minor for “Sonata F.A.E.” by the German composer Johannes Brahms.
Sonatas op. 78, 100 and 108 are fullof lyricism and a lied quality which rerely gives way to virtuosity (in particular in the first two), although they clearly reveal Brahms’ mastery in shaping thematic material, while at the same time creating a harmonious balance between the violin and the piano. The composer felt supremely confident with the piano and the instrument often takes the lead in melodic construction.
The Duo Accardo – Canino takes its inspiration chiefly from the lied characteristic of the Sonatas, with a “vocal” rather than an “instrumental” interpretation, sustaining Brahms’ melodies with expressive phrasing, attention to detail and even at times introducing a theatrical quality.
For this recording Giulio Cesare Ricci used the original tube microphones Neumann U47, M49 and all its equipment: advanced mike pre-amplifiers Nagra, analog tape recorders Nagra 4s, line, digital, microphone and supply cables Signoricci.
The original master were transferred from Nagra 4s directly to DSD
Also for this recording Giulio Cesare Ricci used a “field effect” recording technique, natural sound, without the use of equalizers, no sound expansion and compression systems … all this to make the listener live in his own system domestic hifi the live effect as if he was present at the performances.
